Before and after

What decking cleaning includes

Timber needs a gentler, slower method than hard paving.

  • Initial conversation, then assessment — checking board condition and any loose or rotten sections where a visit is needed.
  • A clear written quotation — scope, inclusions, exclusions and the expected finish.
  • Property protection — planting and borders protected before any water is used.
  • Low-pressure clean, with the grain — never blasted across the grain, to avoid splintering or roughening the boards.
  • Algae and moss removal from boards and gaps — usually the biggest visible improvement.
  • No oiling or staining included — decking oiling is a separate job we don't currently offer as standard.

Why decking gets a gentler method

Full pressure across the grain can splinter or roughen timber decking. We keep pressure low and work with the grain, which is slower but protects the surface.

Surface & condition considerations

Cleaning lifts algae, moss and general grey weathering from decking well — it doesn't repair rotten or loose boards, and it doesn't restore original wood colour without a separate oiling step.

Surface and condition considerations
Board ageTimber greys and weathers with UV and rain. Cleaning lifts dirt but colour won't fully return without oiling afterwards.
Algae and mossCommon in shaded gardens and usually the main improvement — and the main slip risk before cleaning.
Gaps between boardsDebris and silt built up in the gaps are cleared as part of the clean.
Loose or rotten boardsFlagged, not repaired — structural decking issues are a separate job.
Drying timeDecking needs to dry fully before any oiling or staining, which we don't include as part of this service.
Grain directionPressure is kept low and worked with the grain to avoid raising or splintering the surface.

How it works

A short enquiry, then a conversation with Kieran about the work. Where a site visit is the right next step, we look at access, drainage and condition in person before anything is priced — then you get a clear written quotation, and only pay once the work is finished and you're happy with it.

Decking cleaning — your questions

Will decking cleaning make it less slippery?

Removing algae usually helps considerably, since algae is the main slip risk on decking — but we can't guarantee a slip rating, and decking can still be slippery when wet even when clean.

Do you oil or stain decking afterwards?

Not currently — it's a separate specialist job we don't offer as standard. We'll tell you honestly if we think it would be worth arranging separately.

Will loose or rotten boards be fixed?

No — that's a repair job, not a cleaning one. We'll flag anything we find and give you an honest view rather than cleaning over it.

What does decking cleaning cost?

We don't publish prices. Cost depends on the measured area, how much algae there is, and access for hoses and waste water. Send an enquiry and Kieran will talk it through with you.

How long will it stay clean?

Shaded, damp decking under trees will green up again within a season; open, sunny decking can stay cleaner for considerably longer.
