What block paving restoration includes

Cleaning and re-sanding are two halves of the same job.

  • Initial conversation, then assessment — how much sand is left in the joints, whether any blocks have sunk or rocked.
  • A clear written quotation — scope, inclusions, exclusions and whether re-sanding is part of the job.
  • Property protection — borders, planting, drains and garage doors protected. Vehicles off, access agreed.
  • Controlled cleaning of the blocks — a rotary surface cleaner at measured pressure, then hand-lancing along edges and kerb lines.
  • Weed and moss removal from the joints — pulled out as part of the clean, not just skimmed off the top.
  • Kiln-dried re-sanding once dry — fresh sand swept and worked into the joints so the blocks interlock again.

Honest about our reach

We're based in Leyland, and the Preston-side areas closest to home — Bamber Bridge, Penwortham, Walton-le-Dale, Lostock Hall — are well within normal reach. Preston city centre and areas further out are still within scope, but ask us first so we can confirm timing.

Surface & condition considerations

Block paving is more predictable than natural stone, but the joints and drainage still decide how good the result is and how long it lasts. We won't claim cleaning fixes settlement, sunken bays or failed edging.

Surface and condition considerations
Surface ageBlocks fade with UV exposure. Older driveways come up clean but the original colour won't return.
Previous stainingOil, brake fluid, rust and tyre rubber soak into the block and usually lighten rather than lift completely.
Moss and algae levelHeavy joint growth is where the biggest visible improvement comes from.
DrainageStanding water keeps joints damp, feeds regrowth and washes sand out again. Cleaning cannot correct a fall that was laid wrong.
Depth of sand lossVery deep, empty joints need more than one pass to fill properly.
Drying time for re-sandingKiln-dried sand won't travel into a damp joint — we come back when the paving is genuinely dry, usually a separate visit.

Block paving in and around Preston

Restorra is based in Leyland. Preston sits at the edge of our normal working area — the closer South Ribble suburbs of Bamber Bridge, Penwortham, Walton-le-Dale, Lostock Hall and Higher Walton are well within reach, and we cover the wider Preston area too.

Block paving is common on both older and newer driveways across Preston. We assess the actual condition of the joints, drainage and any pre-existing damage in person before anything is quoted.

How it works

A short enquiry, then a conversation with Kieran about the work. Where a site visit is the right next step, we look at access, drainage and condition in person before anything is priced — then you get a clear written quotation, and only pay once the work is finished and you're happy with it.

Block paving restoration in Preston — your questions

Do I have to have my block paving re-sanded?

Not necessarily, but on most driveways it's the right call. Cleaning washes out whatever sand is left in the joints. If your joints are still full and sound we'll say so and leave them alone.

What is kiln-dried sand and why does it have to be dry?

It's fine silica sand dried in a kiln so it flows freely. Dry sand packs tight into a joint; damp sand clumps at the top and leaves it hollow underneath — which is why re-sanding usually happens on a return visit.

Will cleaning make my blocks come loose?

Cleaning removes joint sand, so paving can feel slightly less locked together until it's re-sanded — that's normal. Blocks already rocking before we arrived were rocking because of a laying or drainage issue, not the clean.

Can you stop weeds coming back permanently?

No, and we won't pretend otherwise. A properly refilled joint gives weed seed far less to grow in, so you should see a big reduction — not a permanent end to it.

Which parts of Preston do you cover?

The areas south of the city closest to Leyland — Bamber Bridge, Penwortham, Walton-le-Dale, Lostock Hall and Higher Walton — are comfortably within our normal patch. For the city centre and areas further north, get in touch and we'll confirm timing first.
